DKV Seguros, the Sant Joan de Déu Foundation and the NGO El Somni dels Nens are the three founding members that have been involved since 2004 in the programme of the Sant Joan de Déu Paediatric Hospital "Cuidam. Pequeños pacientes, grandes causas".

This is an international, humanitarian medical initiative that aims to guarantee access to specialised treatment of high technological complexity to children from the Third World and disadvantaged countries who, due to social and economic reasons, do not have access to these services.

In 2017, the programme achieved its thirteenth edition, with 280 success stories. The programme currently receives an average of between 85 and 90 applications, half of which do not fit the profile of the programme, as it does not treat cases of cancer or illnesses that cannot be monitored or attended to in the patient's country of residence.

Professionals from the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital treat on average 20 patients per year, at an approximate cost of 15,000 euros each case. Its goal is to obtain more resources in order to be able to treat 100 patients per year.

The project was an award winner in the first edition of the DKV Medicine and Solidarity Awards, thus reinforcing the support of the company for this initiative.
