Family benefits

Family benefits aim to improve the conditions of MUFACE mutual society members that are interested in having a family.

The healthcare for MUFACE mutual society members consists of healthcare and social benefits. The family benefits are part of the social benefits. The healthcare benefits include:

Benefit for a disabled child or minor under one's care

It is a monthly economic allocation for a disabled dependent child or minor. The amount is established according to the age, the degree of disability and the need of a third person for the disabled minor.

The benefit for a disabled dependent child or minor is provided quarterly. The increases, registrations or right to the benefit are recognised in the calendar quarter following the quarter in which the application is submitted. If it involves a reduction or termination of the right, it shall have effects on the last day of the quarter in which the variation was produced.

Act 6/2018 on the General State Budget for 2018 establishes the following amounts according to the different types:

  • TYPE 1 (person under 18 years old with a degree of disability equal to or greater than 33%). €83.33/month.
  • TYPE 2 (person over 18 years old with a degree of disability equal to or greater than 65%). €380.10/month.
  • TYPE 3 (person over 18 years old with a degree of disability equal to or greater than 75% and the need of assistance). €570.20/month.

The beneficiary will be a mutual society member with a disabled dependent child or minor. The disabled person receiving the benefit must belong to the MUFACE group or perform a job. The remuneration cannot be higher than 100% of the Minimum Wage (SMI) expressed in annual figures, which for 2018 is 10,302.60 euros/year

It can be submitted throughout the year. It can be submitted to the MUFACE Provincial Services or Representative Offices or through any of the registers provided for in the Act on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations or the Common Electronic Record (REC).

Single-payment economic benefit for multiple births or adoptions

It is the benefit that mutual society members can receive for a multiple birth or adoption. It is a single-payment benefit. The amount of this family benefit varies between 4, 8 or 12 times the monthly Minimum Wage (SMI) according to the following criteria:

The beneficiary must be a mutual society member or be in an equivalent position. The benefit may be received by:

  • The parents or adoptive parents
  • The person who has the children in custody or care when the parents do not live together.
  • The individual who has taken care of the minors if they are orphans or were abandoned.

It can be submitted up to five years from the date of birth or the date of the adoption order. It can be submitted to the MUFACE Provincial Services or Representative Offices, or through any of the registers provided for in the Act on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations or the Common Electronic Record (REC).

Special allowance for multiple births, adoptions or fostered children

Mutual society members that have a multiple birth, adoption or fostering. It is compatible with the single-payment economic benefit for multiple birth or adoption.

The amount of this family benefit will be 100% of the contribution base times 42 days, divided by 365 annual days and multiplied by the number of children in the multiple birth or adoption minus one.

The mutual society member that wants to receive this benefit must meet the following requirements:

  • Be registered in the mutual society or in an equivalent situation when the multiple birth, adoption or fostering takes place
  • Having contributed to MUFACE for at least six months
  • Having enjoyed the resting period established by law

The following are eligible to receive this family benefit:

Multiple childbirth: Any of the parents as decided by the mother.

Multiple adoption or fostering: Any of the adopters or foster parents, according to their choice.

They may submit the request within the following 5 years of the birth or the adoption order or placement order. It can be submitted to the MUFACE Provincial Services or Representative Offices, or through any of the registers provided for in the Act on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations or the Common Electronic Record (REC). In the latter case, mutual society members must have an electronic ID card or electronic certificate.
