5th DKV Medicine and Solidarity Awards

Submit your nomination before 11 March

15 January 2018

DKV kicks off the 5th call for the DKV Medicine and Solidarity awards today with the opening of the candidate submission period. These awards recognise the entities and people in the health and social care sector who support or promote solidarity projects beyond their strictly professional work and provide them with the necessary economic and media support to move forward and become an asset in the transformation of healthcare.

From today until 11 March, candidates can submit their projects via http://www.dkvseguros.com/PremiosDKVmedicinaysolidaridad, where they will be able to fill in the participation form. A jury of experts will evaluate the applications based on their social impact, the economic resources allocated, the project's viability and its ability to create value through innovation. The jury will make its decision during a ceremony held in Madrid at the end of May.

The 5th DKV Medicine and Solidarity awards feature a financial award of 10,000 euros for each one of the four categories:

Medical Solidarity Award for a voluntary health care project or action with great momentum. In the previous edition, this award was given to Surgery in Turkana for its work assisting the people of the Turkana region in Kenya. Since 2004, the team has traveled to Kenya on 14 occasions to aid in general surgery, performing more than 1,750 operations.

Career Award, a personal award recognising efforts in the fields of medicine, well-being and charitable work. Dr. Adriana Kaplan received the award last year for her more than 30 years of research in the medical anthropology field and her fight to eradicate female genital mutilation in the countries where it's practiced.

DKV Professional Award, presented to a DKV Seguros health care professional or hospital for their accomplishments in the pursuit of excellence. In the previous edition, the award fell to Serortram thanks to the work of its two promoters, Dr. David Calvo and Dr. Alejandro Muset, who traveled to Angola five times a year for four years to provide free treatment and a new chance at life for children and babies with total or partial obstetric brachial plexus paralysis, as well as palliative treatments for children affected by cerebral palsy in communities with limited resources.

Digital Health Innovation Award, which recognises projects that support e-Health innovation that are clearly and identifiably based on social cohesion. This award, given for the first time last year, was won by the Recover Foundation for its “Telemedicine Health Programme 2.0: Africa-Spain connected professionals", which connects African healthcare professionals with Spanish healthcare volunteers who support them in diagnosing and treating patients.

The jury for these awards is made up of professionals from different fields, all of whom are affiliated with healthcare and social responsibility, as well as representatives from DKV and the DKV Integralia Foundation. Among them are: Dr. Miguel Ángel Sánchez Chillón, President of the Madrid College of Physicians; Dr. Josep Santacreu, CEO of DKV Seguros; Dr. Manuel Vilches, Managing Director of IDIS (Institute for the Development and Integration of Health); Carmen Fernández, Director of Diario Médico and Correo Farmacéutico; Dr. Rafael Casas Esteve, Psychiatrist and Study Director on the current situation of Childhood Obesity in Spain; Dr. José Luis Baquero, Vice-president of the Spanish Patients' Forum; Dr. Bartolomé Beltrán, Director of Prevention and Medical Services for ATRESMEDIA Group; Miguel Angel Máñez, economist, health adviser and blogger; María Jesús de la Fuente, Director of the Recover Foundation, winners of last year's award for innovation in Digital Health; Ana Sainz, Managing Director of the SERES Foundation; Coral Larrosa, journalist at Telecinco News and Vice-president of ANIS, National Association of Healthcare Insiders; Dr. Francisco J.
